What’s the number 1 question I get asked from people wanting to start a blog?
-How can I make money with blogging?
Well, I am going to attempt to answer that with an experiment. 🧪
I am going start a niche blog from scratch and take you along for the journey.
I will be creating a niche site around an interest and attempt to grow consistent traffic and later monetize with ad networks, starting with Adsense.
Adsense is probably not the best way to make money from your blog, but it’s a place to start and I want to see just how much you can make with Adsense, or if it’s a waste of time?
As the traffic grows, I will apply to other ad networks like, Ezoic (where you need 10 000 page views a month), Mediavine (where you need over 40 000 page views a month) or Adthrive (over 100 000 page views a month).
I want to see if an South African can get in.
🗒 Just note that this is not a quick fix or get rich quick thing. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Blogging is hard work and takes time to build, but can be so rewarding in the long run for those who persist.
I already have other blogs of my own that make some money, but this is through another monetization method (I will show this soon in a post too), but I want to see 1st hand if it’s possible with only ads and maybe affiliates later.
I will run my experiment for 24 months (I heard that you can expect to start earning around 6 to 12 months in, when traffic starts to pick up)
I will show you the good, the bad and the ugly (well I hope not ugly). I’ll show you what works and what is a waste of time.
Let’s see how this goes:
1 st step: Pick a niche
I have already picked a niche, a simple one. Please don’t laugh.
This should be able to work with any niche, right? Let’s see…
I am going with Guinea pigs. Yes, Guinea pigs.
Ok, you can laugh.
Step 2: Register a domain name and hosting
I have registered the domain name on the 13th of July 2020. It takes about a day and then you can start with the actual blog.
Step 3: Install WordPress
I have installed WordPress and placed a logo on the site, and that’s about it.
Here is the domain for Guinea Pals if you want to check it out: https://guineapals.com/
Next: I will be picking and installing a Theme for the site and creating my first blog posts. (It will be taking shape in the next week)
Here is a simple logo I created for the new site.
You can follow the journey right here on I takes a Tribe and on my Facebook page, I will keep you updated every step of the way.
